Maximus Root

This month, we feature a post from first-grader Max Root on why he wanted to help With Purpose and what motivated him to be the top youth fundraiser for the 2018 Fight for 5K and Fun Run. We’d love you to leave some words of encouragement for Max in the comments!

My name is Max Root and I am 6 ½ years old.  I like to climb, run, and play with my friends and cousins.  I love animals, playing with legos and being out in nature.

I got involved with With Purpose because my friend Sam died when he was only five years old and I really wanted to do something.  When I heard that three of Sam’s friends started a race to raise money for With Purpose, I wanted to run because Sam was my best friend.

The best part about being part of the run was that I got to raise money for scientists to be able to make medicine. And I just liked racing for Sam!  The run was a mile this year, which was kind of hard for me, but I felt really good when I finished it.

Next year I want to raise more money so that I can get a gift certificate to see the scientists and see what they’ve created.  Being a part of With Purpose and the Fight for 5K & Fun Run makes me feel happy and excited.
