I am the President/Co-Founder of Tigers With Purpose at LSU. I found out about WP and our potential chapter my freshman spring semester (2018) when a group of 5 marketing seniors participated in the Bateman Competition and started the ball rolling on the idea of Tigers With Purpose. I read about them either through social media or our LSU student organization page. My first thought was “Man, why didn’t I think of this first!” I did some more research and reach out to see how I could get involved and join what I thought was an already established club. Once getting more information, the seniors made me aware that I would need to start the club the following semester with their help from the campaign. So, last fall, I gathered a group of friends together and began the process. We became an official student organization this past spring semester. I hope to grow our club as large or larger than College Station’s group. I hope to accomplish informing the Baton Rouge community on the facts surrounding pediatric cancer and its research because I feel like it’s put on such a back burner. People think that it doesn’t happen as often or even as often locally as it does and I think that mindset has to change.

This cause means so much to me because when I was 5 I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Throughout the years as I’ve grown and have been in the realm as a kid who had cancer around other kids who have/had cancer, I’ve realized how lucky I was. Because of this, I feel it is my place to give back and continue the fight. I’m in school hoping to become a pediatric oncology nurse, but when I found out about With Purpose, I realized I could start my mission now. There’s no one better to educate about these facts than someone who’s experienced it and I think that’s how I can do it successfully. People are more inclined to listen to someone who’s been there and who has experienced it because then it can put things into perspective of what would happen if every kid survive and how much better we could make the world.

I’m really hoping Tigers With Purpose will grow so big and so powerful this year and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together!
